Bring More Water Than You Think You Will Need

So bring along plenty of drinking water or be sure to boil any water that you get from a natural source. Also make sure that you bring along a good sized canteen that you can carry with, so you won't be forced by thirst into drinking untreated water on a hike.

Don't Be Stuck in the Dark

Make sure that you bring along plenty of flashlight batteries. You will be surprised how often you use one on an outdoor adventure and how lost you can be once they all go dead. They can be expensive, so consider taking along smaller flashlights that use triple A batteries.

If you are planning to take an adventure outdoors in a national park or any national forest then be aware that you will be on federal land under federal jurisdiction. That means that something like possessing even a small amount of marijuana can land you in big trouble, no matter how liberal the laws in your state are.

Stop In At the Ranger Station and Pick Up Your Permits

Get your campfire permit and follow all the rules that are outlined in it. That means that you may be required to have a container of water and a shovel present at your camp sight and the area cleared around your fire pit to certain specifications. The fines for not having your permits on a sate or national park or forest easily run several hundred dollars and the rangers are diligent, as fines of this type are a reliable source of revenue.
