I believe we all know what affiliate marketing is all about, right? In general, it's about getting paid for selling other people products without any worries about product creation, handling, shipping, etc. Affiliate marketing is actually a win - win situation for both affiliates and vendors because both parties do their part of job and both parties get the money they deserve. That situation is even better for affiliates because in most cases they get better share of sale while don't need to worry about all the other work related to the product they are selling.

In other words, affiliate marketing is a revenue sharing arrangement where both parties gain their share of profit while enjoying some benefits of that arrangement. Affiliate merchants (vendors) get the benefit of paying only for the advertising that results with a sale, while affiliates get the benefit of being paid for a sale that they doesn't have to manage after the sale is made. As we said, a win - win situation for both parties.

How affiliate will get paid for their services depends on how the affiliate program is set up. That depends on the affiliate merchant (vendor) and their choices. Some of them will run their own affiliate programs, while others will be part of a bigger affiliate networks like Commission Junction, Shareasale, Linkshare or others. But in all cases affiliate programs runs on the special type of software or script. That software will assign a special link to every registered affiliate marketer and that special link needs to be used in product promotions. Software or script will track leads and sales using that special link and affiliate marketer will gain commission for every sale they made. Each month, or in any other schedule that vendors could have, affiliates will get paid by check, PayPal or any other method of payment.

Amount of money affiliates can earn from each generated sale depends on the product they choose and percent of revenue (or fixed amount) they will get for each sale. With that said, affiliates needs to be careful when it comes to choosing the vendor or specific product they will promote. Affiliates should choose programs and products wisely, and that should be products they believe in and feel comfortable recommending to their visitors, family, friends, etc.

It would be wise to choose products that you fully understand and are familiar with. Or, if you choose product that you don't know anything about but really want to promote it, take your time to learn more about the product before you start promoting it. By doing that, you will be able to write better ads, descriptions, articles and sales letters, without the problems of not knowing what to say or write down.

You should also choose those vendors who provide you with some basic and starting promotional materials. Training programs, if they are needed, would be great for every affiliate, so if you don't receive them and they are essential for you to be able to make money with particular program, drop the program from your list and search for another one. In other cases look for the programs that give your promotional materials like banners, product images, articles or any other type of useful promotional material.

In general, look for the programs with commission rates of 50% or more (less is acceptable only when product price is high so smaller commission percentage can mean a good earnings for you). You should also look for programs that have recurring commissions or pay on multiple levers, but I wouldn't suggest you to go with various MLM programs because they are mostly scam and untrusted, at least in my opinion. Second tier is in most cases just enough. The more important thing is that program you work with is trusted, solid and reputable.
